Synopsis[]

Lily is very forgetful, but with some help from an understanding classmate she learns to keep trying.

Plot[]

In class, everyone is drawing when Charles notices Lily beneath him. Her pencil went missing. Doris spots it on her ear and she heads back to her seat until Mrs. Jenkins sees her shoe is untied. She helps her tie it and Lily returns to drawing. Once she finishes, she and Charles go to the wall to hang their pictures up, complimenting each others works. Then lunch gets announced, but when Lily can't find her lunch box, Mrs. Jenkins asks that everyone helps her look for it. Charles manages to find it beneath a desk and with that, they all sit down to eat. Lily thanks Charles for help and he remarks that he is happy they found it. They swap half of their sandwiches and begin chatting when Charles happens to notice the string on Lily's finger. She recalls that Mrs. Jenkins came up with this idea, to help her remember things- but it hasn't worked yet.

Throughout the school day Charles helps Lily; he keeps track of her pencil, and they share a laugh over the spider picture she drew, accidentally startling Doris again. Eventually recess approaches, and everyone heads outside to play. Charles and Lily decide to play hide and seek when Timothy approaches to invite Charles to play with him. Charles mentions he is playing with Lily, but he agrees to play later.

Soon the ice cream truck arrives but Lily realizes that she forgot to ask her mom for a nickel today. Charles offers to share his ice cream with her if she will hold him a spot in line, and Lily runs off. Everyone anxiously anticipates the arrival of the truck, and to pass the time they tell each other jokes, until Lily realizes her scarf is missing. Timothy recalls that she had it earlier so she runs off to find it. Charles comes along to ask where she is, and Timothy tells him what happened. Charles heads off to help Lily, but by the time they find it, Grace has just gotten the last ice cream cone. The ice cream truck drives away and Charles is disappointed, causing Lily to express remorse. Charles assures her its alright and suddenly it starts raining, causing Lily to remember that the string on her finger was supposed to remind her to bring an umbrella today.

Lily is greeted by her mom when she arrives home, only to realize she forgot her lunch box on the bus. Her mom assures her its alright and reveals they have several just like it in the kitchen. She sits down with Lily to ask about her day, and Lily tells her mom that Charles has been helping her, and how she's become good friends with him. She felt bad over what happened earlier though. Her mom is glad Lily is making a caring friend like Charles and suggests she thank him for his help.

The following morning, she gives Lily a nickel for ice cream and she gets on the bus to sit down with Charles. She shows him the nickel and soon they arrive to school, where Lily is shown to do better compared to the prior day. She was able to keep an eye on her belongings, and at recess she could focus on playing hide and seek. But when the ice cream truck arrives, she realizes she lost her nickel. Charles, Timothy and Yoko attempt to help her but she is unable to remember where she put it when Charles points out he has two nickels -one from the day before- and offers to give the other to her. Lily agrees but wanting to do her part, she offers to get them. He agrees and hands her the money, with Lily quickly pushing her way through the line to get to the front to make sure she gets two ice creams.

Unfortunately, Lily forgot about the second ice cream and accidentally allows it to melt while she eats the other one. By the time Charles finds her, she suddenly recalls what she was doing and realizes she forgot again. She apologizes for her mistake and Charles helps her by retracing her steps in order to find her missing nickel. Along the way they bump into Mrs. Jenkins, who points out Lily's shoe needs tied again. As she sits down to tie it she suddenly remembers her nickel was put in there and takes it out. She quickly rushes back to the ice cream truck and purchases another to give to him. Everyone is in a good mood, and when Lily realizes her shoe is missing everyone begins to laugh.
