Putting It All Together

Synopsis[]

Mrs. Jenkins has a special surprise if the class can put together the puzzle she made for them and solve a treasure hunt. However, it will require teamwork for them to succeed.

Plot[]

Timothy is putting together his third puzzle when his mom comes in to observe and tell him it's dinner time. He asks to do a little bit more though, wanting to finish it. She agrees and leaves the room.

The following day, Mrs. Jenkins announces that it is "Surprise Puzzle Day". She's glad when they tell her they have been practicing, and she explains the rules of the game; she hid puzzle pieces for a large puzzle throughout the school. They have a time limit to finish the puzzle, and if they do they will win a special surprise. She refuses to say anything about the surprise though, and she shows them the hour glass she will be using and flips it over for them to start after she covers the rules. The search begins and the children break up to search the school. Grace and Doris argue after they both go to search the coat room, and Charles comes by to look until they tell him they were there, so he leaves to look elsewhere. Grace scolds Doris for not putting things back after she searches through them and begins cleaning up after her.

Nora runs outside to search the playground and is approached by Claude, who wanted to climb the jungle gym to search. Nora claims that she is good enough to look, until he shows her the seven pieces he's already found in comparison to her two. Nora is annoyed until he suggests she check the swings, and she runs over.

Back inside, Yoko and Lily have found some pieces- although Lily lost some of them too. Claude returns with Nora, revealing he's now found fifteen pieces and she's only had the two from before. Realizing how much time was spent searching, the students are starting to grow frustrated with their little findings. Timothy suggests they work together because the way they're doing it now isn't working. Claude and Fritz decide to go back outside, while Lily and Yoko decide to check the dress up corner for the pieces she dropped. Timothy suggests that Grace check the hallway, and the Franks decide to check around the sandbox outside. Charles and Nora then decide to go into the coat room again as Doris finds a piece inside of the piano.

The Franks dig around the sandbox and manage to find a piece each. They continue to dig, while Claude and Fritz try to think of how they can find some. Claude lays on the ground and checks under the swing, and tells Fritz to do the same after he spots one taped to it. He finds a few pieces so they quickly gather them up. In the coat room, Nora picks up a bunch of shoes someone left on the floor. She manages to find a bunch of pieces by matching up shoes, and Charles is able to find a lot beneath the carpet.

At the dress up corner Lily and Yoko stand atop the chest with clothing in it and find pieces under a hat on the shelf. Yoko grabs the pieces and together the children come together to get started assembling the puzzle. They work together doing sections of it and then combine them to form a large puzzle, and they see not much time is left. Unfortunately, they realize they are still missing some pieces. They rush back to continue searching for the remaining ones, checking the hallway, coat room, and most of the classroom. They are beginning to lose hope that they will finish in time until Claude and Fritz happen to spot a bunch of pieces on a butterfly-shaped picture and on the globe. There's only a few minutes left, and now there is just one piece left.

Just then, Timothy spots the final piece hanging nearby from a string. He grabs it and adds it to the puzzle, just in time for the hour glass to fill back up. Mrs. Jenkins congratulates the children and happily points out that now it is time for lunch. She leads them outside to reveal that the surprise is a large picnic resembling the puzzle she made. The students happily run over to the table and sit down as Henry joins them and their teacher, pouring drinks for everyone.
