Red Thunder

Synopsis[]

After showing off his brand new bike and gaining attention from the others, Timothy gains a major confidence boost and wants to try the stunt he sees Doris' older brothers doing while playing with the Franks.

Plot[]

Henry is taking everyone's bikes off of the bus when he remarks on the one that looks brand new. Timothy manages to impress everyone when he reveals it belongs to him and Mrs. Jenkins greets them. She has decided to put Henry in charge for bike and fun safety day, and she gives them a chance to talk about their bikes one-by-one. Henry warns the Franks against doing wheelies, which isn't safe. Nora shows how noisy her bike is, while Fritz shows everyone the impressive features he has in his own bike. Timothy takes his turn last to tell them about his bike -red thunder- that he just got for her birthday.

With that the class begins taking turns going through the safety course Henry set up. He ensures Timothy has his helmet on properly and has him demonstrate the proper way to handle a stop sign. Timothy stops and looks both ways, then passes when Henry gives permission. He compliments Timothy and asks him to demonstrate what he did to the others, and he is very proud of everyone. He calls a lunch break and Timothy sits down, only to realize that everyone is giving him a lot of attention, even Claude. He asks Yoko and she comments that his impressive bike makes him seem more mature. Timothy is pleased with this and everyone enjoys their lunch.

Afterwards, Henry decides to give the children a course test. He tells them the layout and what he will be judging them on. Everyone takes turns; including the Franks, who knock down everything not understanding the point of the exercise. After everyone takes their turns, Mrs. Jenkins lets her students know that bike and fun safety day is finished, and Henry hands out rewards for those who did extra-good. He gives them to the Franks due to how quick they cleared the course, Claude and Grace for accuracy, and one to Timothy.

He packs everyone's bikes back onto the bus and drives them home. Once they arrive at Doris' house, the Franks and Timothy are very impressed when they spot her older brothers performing some dangerous jumps off of a ramp using their bikes. They want to try it too but Henry warns the boys not to attempt something like this yet. They're smaller than they are and could get hurt. The trio are disappointed but they agree as the bus takes off, and the Franks make plans to ride bikes with Timothy. Once they arrive to their place, he calls Timothy's parents and lets him know its alright, then he heads to the front yard to mow the lawn. He warns the boys to continue practicing good safety, but they quickly become bored just riding around. They put together a make-shift ramp and Timothy decides he will go first once the Franks start to bicker over who should. They agree, but just before Timothy can reach it, his bike hits the ramp at an angle and he's sent flying off of it, onto the ground.

The Franks run over to check on him and the sound alerts their dad, but Timothy assures everyone he is okay. The Franks are scolded but Timothy tells their dad it was his idea, and he's concerned to discover his bike took some damage. However, the Franks' dad is just relieved he is alright, and he quickly fixes the bike for him. Timothy sees his dad coming by to pick him up and he says goodbye to the Franks before they head home. Along the way, Timothy decides to tell his dad what happened.
